Pistol Disco

1999

Pistol Disco is a noise duo from Gothenburg in Sweden. The music is hard, brutal and primal, but even if the level of noise sometimes is comparable to noise extremists like Merzbow it never becomes harsh. Melodies and song structure is always visible beneath all layers of electro-industrial dissonance. Using Suicides minimal and spooky approach as a starting point, Pistol Disco creates tracks ranging from splatter-intensive drum’n’noise dance beats through pumping epic electro-kraut to dreamy lo-fi electronica. But the result is not retro in any aspect; Pistol Disco has its own unique vision of how music, inspired of the past - intended for the future, should sound like.

All music is created live using keyboards, electronic drum-pads, effects, transistor radio unit, mixing consoles and other primitive electronic instruments and devices. This makes improvisation becoming an important part in the process of creating the music, both onstage and in the studio.

Pistol Disco was formed in 2004 and became loosely connected to the British noise-dance floor-terrorists V/Vm, releasing videos and a couple of tracks on compilations. During 2005 Pistol Disco released a numbers of CD-Rs and began playing frequently in various underground spots in Gothenburg. The work on the debut full-length record, titled Two, started out early 2006 and was finished just before the summer Europe Live AAid tour and the release of a 10” ep with the same name. Intensive work on the follow-up, to the critical acclaimed debut CD, started in the end of 2006 and just before the summer 2007 Pistol Discos most accomplished body of work was released - Radiation!
